Herb Chambers owner of Chambers Motors of Boston, Herb Chambers Maybach and smart center Boston, all of Somerville, recently met with Deborah Re, CEO of Big Sister Association to help raise nearly $100,000 at the Big Sister’s 20th Annual BMW raffle.
Big Sister is the oldest and largest mentoring program in Greater Boston exclusively serving girls. The real winner in the raffle was the girls involved in Big Sister, because the proceeds helped to fund the group’s programs.
One lucky winner also took home the shiny new vehicle.
Chambers provided the vehicle for the raffle and is the owner of the Herb Chambers Companies, New England’s largest automobile group, comprised of over 40 dealerships in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Can there be too much opportunity?
Herb Chambers would likely say no. But for nearly all dealers, including Chambers, one aspect of their business dictates “yes.”
Every day, dealers are asked to donate money, new cars, and used cars to groups and individuals in need. If only business were as steady and reliable as requests for charitable contributions.
Chambers prefers to keep his considerable charitable works low key.
He responds most often to pleas from people he knows already, because he wants assurance that the funds will find their way to those who truly need them. “We don’t have a policy about giving,” he said. “We do it on a case by case basis.”
He acknowledges an aversion to professional fundraisers. His most recent visible charitable work has been on behalf of the 200 Foundation, which honored Chambers as its Man of the Year last year.
The Metrowest charity donates all of the money it raises directly to food pantries, counseling centers, respite homes and other organizations.

MINIsOnTop is raffling the 24 month lease of a 2005 MINI Cooper. For the cost of one raffle ticket you will have the chance to keep a 2005 Hyper Blue/White MINI Cooper with sunroof in your possession for two years. You’ll be allowed 10,000 miles per year. At the end of the two years you may extend your lease or return the vehicle. You will be responsible for associated taxes and insurance.

Who will be the recipient of the proceeds from this year’s raffle? The Kennedy-Donovan Centers of Massachusetts will be the recipient of this year’s MINIsOnTop raffle.
